Blepharoplasty


Pre-op Meds: Ancef  or clindamycin

Anesthesia:  general or IV sedation

Patient position:  supine

Bed position:  90°

DVT ppx:  compression boots on and working BEFORE induction of anesthesia

Side Table:  none

Lights:  OR overhead lights

Power:  no

Bovie Settings:  10 – 10, Colorado tip

Preinjection: bleph solution or 1% lido w 1/100k epi

Prep:  Betadine

Drapes:  four towels and a split sheet

Instrument sets:  blepharoplasty/oculoplastics set

Special Instruments: SCLERAL SHIELDS placed before prep with lubricant

Devices/Implants:  none

Hypodermic needles:  27 gauge needle

Syringes:  10 mL syringe

Drains:  none

Suture:  4-0 monocryl taper RB1, 6-0 fast gut cutter, 5-0 fast gut cutter, derrmabond 

Anesthesia on field:  general or IV sedation

Dressing:  topical ophthalmic antibiotic  ointment and ice packs

Admission status: SDS

Estimated time:  30 minutes upper, 1 hr lower, 90 minutes both

Coding:

Post-op wound care:  iced sponges to eyes and topical antibiotic ointment

Post-op activity restirctions:  l light activity for two weeks

Follow up:  one week
